The Maltese Militia and Hornetsnest Paintball joined forces to produce their second indoor Close Quarters Battle Tournament. On February 16th, 7 teams played for the bragging rights, the trophies, and of course the cash prizes.
The event started with 7 rounds of play in a round robin format. Teams scored points by eliminating opponents, 100 points for each elimination. This time we added a 50 point bonus for winning the rounds. In the end those 50 points made a big difference on where teams were seeded going into the finals. The final rounds consisted of single elimination matches, with the highest seeded team getting a first round bye. The teams that came out to play were, Assassinz Creed Gold and Silver, Frontline Recon, Hornetsnest Young Guns, Rubber Duckies Alpha and Charlie and Sack Attack. These teams had very different levels of experience both in paintball and in the CQB style of play. At the end of the events Cash prizes were awarded for 1st to 3rd place, as were trophies for 1st through 4th places. There were also a Sportsmanship Award and a Most Valuable Player award.
Overall the teams played an aggressive style of indoor paintball and kept the Maltese Militia Refs busy all day. The staff from Hornetsnest helped to make the day go almost perfectly and the games went so well that the tournament ended early enough for many of the teams to enjoy some open play late in the afternoon.
Results: 1st Place – Frontline Recon 2nd Place – Hornetsnest Yong Guns 3rd Place – Assassinz Creed 4th Place – Rubber Duckies Charlie Sportmanship – Rubber Duckies Alpha Most Valuable Player – John from Frontline Recon
There was also a presentation from the members of the Maltese Militia of a certificate of appreciation to Bob. Bob, the owner of Hornetsnest, has treated the Maltese Militia like a home team even thought we are located too far away from him to make that practical. His support of our team is above and beyond anything that we could ask for. His continued support of us and the sport of paintball makes us proud to be associated with him.
The Maltese Militia is a small scenario paintball team that is made up of Firefighters and EMS providers and bunch of our friends. We are very proud to have the sponsorship of Guardian Uniforms, Hammerhead Barrels, Stinger Paintball Designs, Motosolutions Fog Tech, HiViz Shooting Systems, and Camelbak.
We also thank Bob from Hornetsnest. He runs one of the most player friendly fields and pro-shops we have ever had the pleasure to be involved with. Hornetsnest is located in Ancramdale, NY and is a great place to play paintball. You can get more info and see some still photos at www.maltese-militia.com.
