The Maltese Militia and Hornet's Nest Paintball joined forces to produce their first indoor Close Quarters Battle Tournament this past December. On the 30th, 8 teams squared off to see who could be the best at the end of the day. The teams came from all round the local area, and they all had a great time. The teams were 518, Aces, Assassinz Creed, Frontline, Rubber Duckies, Trashtalk Gold, Trashtalk Silver, and Yankee Division.
The event started with 6 rounds of play in a round robin format. Teams scored points by eliminated the opponents, 100 points for each elimination. Each round was against a different team and the different styles of play were evident fro the beginning. Some teams played a "defensive" game while others played a more aggressive 'attacking' style. In the end it seemed to take a combination of the two styles to gain the upper hand. The finals consisted of a single elimination bracket. All 8 teams advanced to the brackets and were ranked by their points from the round robin portion of the event.
The teams all seemed to step up the level of play in the finals. The ref staff noted a much more aggressive style of play by the teams in the finals. As the brackets played out, the top four teams from the round robin portion rose to the top of the brackets. In the end, Rubber Duckie and Trashtalk Silver played off for the top spot. Just before the final game, Assassinz Creed was able to win out and get third place over Frontline. The day ended with Rubber Duckies taking the win over Trashtalk Silver. Rubber Duckies took home the 1st place trophy and $600, Trashtalk Silver took the 2nd place trophy and $400, while Assassinz Creed took home the 3rd place trophy and $200. The final award went to Yankee Division. They won the Sportsmanship award. They showed the highest level of sportsmanship all day, even offering to share equipment when rival teams had problems with their markers. It was hard fought games all day, and in the end the players all seemed to have a smile on their faces.
The Maltese Militia sends out our thanks to all the teams who participated, to the players and those who just came to watch. Without you folks, this event would have been pretty boring. We also thank Bob from Hornetsnest. He runs one of the most player friendly fields and pro-shops we have ever had the pleasure to be involved with. Hornetsnest is located in Ancramdale, NY and is a great place to play paintball. You can get more info; see some video and still photos at www.maltese-militia.com.
