The Kila Detent going on the test Intimidator
Kila Products is a fairly new player to the paintball world, making their signature magnetic detents, boards, aftermarket eyes for various markers, and a clothing line as well.  This review will cover the magnetic detents, which is the core product in Kila's line.

In a magnet, there are two 'poles', which is like polarity in electricity.  Just like there are positive and negative voltages, so it is with magnets.  In a magnet, there's a 'North' pole and a 'South' pole.  In magnets, opposites attract, so two magnets placed with the north and south poles facing each other will attract and stick to each other.  When two like poles are placed near each other, they will repel each other.  Kila uses this principle to make a ball detent that uses no moving parts with the idea of making them more reliable.  This principle is also used in triggers, using the repelling magnets to act as a spring.

Kila Magnetic detents were used in several different markers for this test, including an ION, '05 and '06 Egos, and a 2k2 Style Intimidator.  Installation was easily accomplished in every case, using the supplied detent and eye cover to replace existing parts.  In every case the Kila part was of a higher fit, finish and quality than the part it replaced.  The only difficulty we ran into during the installation on the Intimidator was making sure that the detent and eye cover were lined up before installing the screw to hold the eye cover down.  If it's not perfectly aligned, the eye cover won't go all the way down.  I used a pick to move the detent back and forth in the Intimidator's detent slot until it lined up and the eye cover went down flush.

Dale giving the test mule a good workout
Over the course of testing, all of the markers fitted with Kila detents were subjected to heavy use using various types of loaders, paint and in varying conditions.  No problems were noted with any of the markers associated with worn or bad detents.  The Intimidator especially uses rubber nubbin type detents, which over time wear out and can even break off, disabling the marker until new detents are installed.  With the Kila detents installed, this issue is avoided entirely, because there are no moving parts to lube, inspect and replace periodically.  The rare earth magnets used by Kila never lose their magnetism, so this is one less issue to worry about on a day-to-day basis.

Kila Magnetic detents are reasonably priced considering that once you install them, you'll likely never have to replace them again.  At $44.95 it's a worthy investment for your marker if you're looking to reduce down time and maximize play time.  For more information, check out www.kilaproducts.com
