Custom Products has been in the industry for some time, starting out by selling well made, reasonably priced barrels and moving into other accessories like triggers, and most recently into their own line of air systems. Besides their barrels, Custom Products is most widely known for their much-lauded inline regulators.
Like any other company, Custom Products believes that their product is the best available, and to that end they're making accessories that make it easier to use their products. In recent generation WDP Angels, the inline regulator is housed in a one-piece foregrip that doesn't allow simply screwing on another manufacturer's reg. Since the advent of the 2005 G7 and Angel Speed, WDP has incorporated their already excellent minireg into a one-piece foregrip. Now with the Angel One serving as WDP's flagship, Custom Products has stepped up yet again to produce an adapter that allows a player to use whatever inline regulator he chooses.
Custom Products' job has been made quite a bit easier because WDP has instituted a program that allows manufacturers of accessories access to the CAD (Computer Assisted Drafting) drawings used to make the Angel One to ensure that accessories made for the Angel One will work properly and not void the marker's warranty from the factory.
The test marker for this review is an early model Angel One, one of the first fade A1's imported into the country. It's had all of the relevant updates to hardware and software made to it. The regulator adaptor provided by Custom Products for review looked like a factory part, with the anodizing in particular a perfect match for the rest of the marker. Installation took around 20 minutes, and involved removing the end cap for the stock regulator, pulling out the spool and using a long Allen key to loosen the factory part from the marker's body. Putting the new part on reversed the process. To replace the stock minireg, we used a dust black short inline regulator from Custom Products.
The marker was used at Viper Paintball's production of "F.E.A.R.", a scenario game held at the Camp Blanding MOUT facility near Starke, FL. Over the course of the weekend 3 cases of paint were put through the marker without a hitch. The CP reg and the WDP Minireg are of similar design, so the performance was nearly identical, but we did notice that adjustments made to the CP resulted in a more linear increase or decrease in velocity, whereas the Minireg tended to need a few shots to stabilize at a new pressure. In both cases consistency was very good, especially considering the hot, humid conditions that affected the paint during the course of the day.
The adaptor's greatest utility is in allowing a player to install a regulator that allows high pressure input from the bottle, which is quite a bit more cost effective than having to by a new tank regulator or complete air system to accommodate the Minireg's preference for low pressure input. This would be useful for players who own more than one marker, and it gives them the capacity to use an HP air system to accommodate a backup or primary marker that works best on HP input.
Priced around $30, the Custom Products Regulator Adaptor offers a reasonably priced, high quality solution to players who want to use their own inline regulator on their Angel One. It's available now from your local Custom Products dealer, or direct at www.customproducts.us .
